>So I’m really lucky in the fact that Princess LOVES reading. Her most recent favorites for reading are the Rainbow Magic series. So for her birthday she chose that as her theme. Only, there are no commercialized party items for the Rainbow Magic Fairies, because let’s face it, most kids don’t have book themed birthdays (though Fancy Nancy is getting really big, but we had that party before it became commercialized, I guess Princess is just one of the trend setters). So I had to make everything myself, which is probably better anyway, at least for my wallet.
These were the invitations. The picture came from the Rainbow Fairy site. They were originally designed to be post cards, but I only used the one side, taped it to some card stock, and had Princess write in the party information. And you can’t see it very well, but for a few of the fairies, I used an exacto knife and cut along the fairy’s back where their wings were and I pushed a small amount of tulle through. Gave it more of a 3d effect and I think made it a little craftier (is that even a word?)
I went to the dollar store and they had these cute little wings there, I was going to make my own (if you want to see how check out this cute tute at Somewhat Simple, but for a dollar a piece? Well, making some nice cute ones could wait till later, and then I would only have to make them for one little girl instead of 5) I couldn’t find all the wings the same color so I got all different colors and as the girls arrived they got to pick the color they wanted. Of course, pink was the color Princess picked and she was very worried that her friends might think her wings were up for grabs… (but that’s another long story!)
And of course it wouldn’t be a party with out some fun, and Princess’ birthday parties always include some kind of craft:
They started out by using fabric paint to paint on their gift bags (which came as a pack of 3 in the one spot at target and they were 50% off, so the two packs cost a whopping $1, so the total so far is $6)
Then we played “Hide the Fairy” I printed a picture of one of the Magic fairies from the site and colored it in. Then one of the girls got to hide it and the other girls searched. I love the searching look that “S” gave. The finger on the chin, the hand on the hip, classic!
Then they got to tie ribbons on their bracelets (got a pack of 12 for $1) and their wands (a pack of 10 for $1) and the ribbon came in a package with lots of different kinds, on clearance for $0.20 at Hancock Fabric (AWESOME!) (So my grand total now is: $8.20)
Then I used some of the ribbon to make necklaces, I pulled out some of Princess’ old beads, and also added a washer that I stamped “bff” on for each girl. (I had all these items from other projects so it cost me nothing)
We did have cupcakes, which were from a box, and frosting, from a can, and Lemon Ade to drink so that added up to $4.50, so my total for the party: $12.70
The girls had a BLAST! And I didn’t break the bank having an awesome party.
