>Ok, I love quick and easy sewing projects. Why? Because lots of people can do them, and since they don’t take much time it’s instant gratification. This is one of those projects.
Since we’re potty training (yeah, my son is doing REALLY well with the schedule I set up for him of doing it for a day, waiting, then doing it again, until he decides to do it. Well, he did decide to do it. And he has been telling me when he has to go, and he’s been going on the potty! Seriously, in less then 1 week after turning 18 months, he’s “house” trained as I like to call it, but not quite outside trained, because yeah, he doesn’t give me a whole lot of time to find a potty) so while we’re out and about we need training pants. We have some training underpants, but no covers. And since I’m too lazy to rinse out the vinyl covers from the store, I decided to use PUL (the same stuff used in diapers) so I could throw them in the wash at night.
So, making your own is VERY easy. There are lots of free patterns online, but when I went to make these, yeah, I was out of paper, so no chance of printing my own pattern. So, I used an old pair of my daughter’s underpants (they are clean, and we’re going to throw them out anyway).
Supplies:
Training Pants pattern- or Make your own
FOE (I love that stuff SO much, makes projects so very easy!!)
PUL
To Make Your Own Pattern:
-An old pair of underpants, or new, but one you won’t feel bad cutting up)
So, you cut off the elastic waist band, and cut along the side seams. This is going to be the start of your pattern.
So, I put the underpants on the top of the PUL (with the shiny side up) and traced a rough pattern around the underpants. I knew I wanted it to be a bit taller so there would be space for the training pants underneath.
Now, there is your pattern, but since the underpants weren’t even, I folded it in half the long way, and I cut it so both sides would end up even. I also used permanent marker to draw on the pattern, and if I really cared I would use some rubbing alcohol to wipe it off, but this will be on the inside so I really could care less.
One thing that is important is that both the sides be the same length, see how they are different widths, but they are both the same height?
So, sew the two side hems back together.
Hooray, we’re almost done!!
Then sew with the FOE around the waste and the two leg holes. To sew with FOE, I always heat seal the edges (run a candle over the edges so they won’t fray) then I sew with a zig zag stitch and pull the FOE tight, but not too tight or it will break your needle, and sew around the opening. It’s really very easy. Oh, and make sure to wash and dry the PUL before you use it or it will shrink.
And there you have it. Nice, easily washed training pant covers. You can just wipe them out between uses and wash them in the washer and dry on low heat when you want to. The first pair took less then 30 minutes, and the ones after that can be done in less then 5 minutes. So, yeah, quick and easy!!

>This is awesome! Have you seen the price of these online? They are ridiculous. I would have easily spent $25-30 on a set of 5. Yikes. PS – How did the doctor appointment go?
>I have been looking for things to do with PUL.
I have a friend that will be needing these before long. Thanks!!! Came over from Tea Rose Home.http://lamarkham.blogspot.com
